Game Art: James Ryan and Eric Kaltman's GameSpace (2017)

Data viz porn: GameSpace is a playable visualization of 16,000 videogames grouped on the basis of common features and displayed in 3-dimensional space like a vast galaxy of games available for exploration. I ts based on an analysis of all the articles about specific games found on Wikipedia. A giant, interactive map, merging games studies and digital humanities. Below is a constellation of all the NFL football video games players can explore within this staggering database: image from news.ucsc.edu
GameSpace was created by UCSC computer science graduate students James Ryan and Eric Kaltman, with Wardrip-Fruin and Michael Mateas, professor and chair of computational media, as their primary advisers. Undergraduates Taylor Owen-Milner and Andrew Max Fisher carried out much of the development work.More info about the project here.Obviously, this is more Manovich than Malevich. LINKGameSpace (image via University of Santa Cruz)
