Talk: Skot Deeming on Game Art (2014)
On January 18, 2014, scholar, curator and critic Skot Deeming discussed the practice of curating games and game based artworks at the Video Pool Media Arts Centre, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, a nonprofit Artist-Run Centre dedicated to independent video, audio and multimedia production, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, as part of an event titled Fortuna's Arcade. The discussion focused on the indie video game making scene, art games, video game modding practices, ROMhacking, bootlegs and more. Deeming raised key questions relating tho the the use (and abuse) of gaming in Contemporary Art, such as "What considerations must be made when selecting this kind of work? What are the spaces, critical and aesthetic concerns in curating video games and game art?"
