HTWG Konstanz, the University of Applied Sciences in Constance, Germany, is seeking a full professor for time-based media in the Faculty of Architecture and Design. The position begins on 1 March 2027 and is offered at salary bracket W2.
The appointment is especially relevant to artists, designers, researchers, and educators working across contemporary moving image practices, media art, interactive installation, creative coding, generative media, and digital visual culture. The successful candidate will teach and conduct research in the foundations, techniques, histories, and strategies of digital time-based media, with particular attention to the full production process: concept development, dramaturgy, aesthetic judgement, visual culture, and the theory of moving image media.
Teaching will take place primarily in the Visual Communication Design department, at both bachelor’s and master’s level, with possible contributions across the School of Architecture and Design and the wider university. The role also includes supervising theses and internships, managing and developing the time-based media laboratory/studio, contributing to international relations, and supporting the continued development of the department.
HTWG is looking for a candidate with a degree in art or design, significant artistic aptitude in applied contemporary moving image media, media art, interactive media installations, or time-based generative media, and at least five years of professional experience, including three years outside academia. Teaching experience in time-based media is required. The university also asks for a digital portfolio including time-based media work, a short statement on methodology, and documentation of prizes or awards where applicable.
The profile places strong emphasis on the socio-ethical responsibilities of design and moving image production, as well as on contemporary visual culture, equality, diversity, and intercultural competence. Experience in artistic research, creative coding, programming for artistic or design applications, sound design, cross-media design, and international contexts will be considered an advantage.
Applications must include a curriculum vitae, certified copies of relevant certificates, a list of publications where applicable, proof of professional activity, documentation of prizes and awards, and a digital portfolio. The reference number is 1-1119.
