Game Art: Wall Pushers' "Mission 67" (2013)

This is quite different. Ice cream as a weapon of mass destruction. Digital games as weapons of mass distraction. Mission 67 by Wall Pushers is a peculiar FPS set in Palestine. The "67" in Mission is an obvious reference to the 1967 Six Day War aka 1967 Arab-Israeli War. This level of photorealism surpasses everything I have seen on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 so far.

Artist statement below:

"Is critical art restricted to gallery space? This short video questions the role of video games in provoking critical thinking. It takes on a heavily charged issue - the militarised occupation of the Palestinian West Bank - and applies a first-person-shooter point of view to it. The digital space context provides new possibilities to challenge our perception of issues around us, and the playability helps it stay with us long after the experience. Can video games attract our attention to issues that otherwise stay unnoticed?" (Wall Pushers)LINK
