Game Art: Olaf Val's "Satin Lover" (2014)
Olav Val's Satin Lover is part of the Pure Perfection series, which focus on commodity fetishism and marketing rhetoric. The first two works in the series Satin Lover and Supreme Collection are interactive meditations on the associative relationships between market research and product innovation. Satin Lover deals with a particularly pernicious form of technological ideology: gamification. Olaf Val (born 1968) grew up in Hanau and Frankfurt, Germany. After obtaining his degreet at the Academy of Art in Kassel, he was awarded his diploma at a post-graduate course at the Art Academy For Media in Cologne. Val curated several exhibitions in Germany and in other European countries. Since 2003, he has been working as a freelance artist and (since 2004) as an academic lecturer. In addition to art exhibitions, Val has organized several workshops and stage performances. He has also produced a series of indie game kits currently sold online.
