Game Art: Nikita Rokotyan's "V2V, Making of the Tree" (2012)

Nikita Rokotyan is a Creative developer and Interactive designer from Yekaterinburg, Russi. V2V is a collaborative project developed by two teams - one American and one Russian - in Minecraft. As Rokotyan explains:

"The idea of the project was to create an art object for Titanium Valley — recently established free economic zone in Urals. This zone is founded near Salda village where the huge production of titanium is situated. We, being quite sceptical about the new "valley", have done a research and found main things that people of Salda are afraid of or waiting for from this free economic zone. At the same time artist and scientists from Silicon Valley have done similar research about the history and people of their place. Communication between two teams was held in Minecraft where we simulated the lifestyle of the two Valleys. The environment of the game with the help of 3d printing was used to prototype different art objects for the project. Finally the object of Russian team was shown at the Ural Industrial Biennial in Ekaterinburg while the object of Silicon Valley team was shown at ZERO1 Biennial in San Jose, California." (Rokotyan)
