Game Art: Marie Sester's "Threatbox.us" (2005-2007)
Marie Sester is a French-American media artist whose work "Questions the perspective of the West, and the meta-state of a New World Order". As she writes on her website, Sester employs "archetypes and referents as starting points" reconfiguring "already-existing data or phenomena, in order to propose a connection between individuals and wider forces, or larger scales, or longer time-bases." Her goal is to investigate and examine such notions as "society", "community" and "everyday life".
Threatbox.us (2007) is an interactive installation with web surveillance interface in which a movie frame from a montage of violent excerpts from films, news media, and computer games “attacks” visitors via a robotic video projector and computer vision tracking system. It was presented at Laboral in 2007 for an event curated by Christiane Paul. Additional information can be found here.
