Game Art: Jude Buffum's "Paint by Pixels" at GDC 2011 (San Francisco, March 4 -82011)

"An art installation plus social experiment, PAINT BY PIXELS is a tribute to the perseverance of the pixel through several decades of gaming culture. Despite polygons prevailing in this modern area, the geometric prowess of the pixel is still one of intrigue and luster. GDC, along with media wizards and artist collective iam8bit, present a puzzle of mass proportions, gifting each conference attendee with a single piece of pixel to attach to an 20-by-8-foot pop portrait by famed designer Jude Buffum. Through the course of the convention's week long run, the large-scale image will reveal itself (all 5,760 pixels of it), illustrating the true power of collaboration. But unless you – yes, YOU – contribute, the wall may be left incomplete." (GDC)
