Game Art: Irma Oldenburg's "PLAY" (2010)
"Play begins with the classic look of a computer game from the 1990’s. As it progresses we are presented with a target in which we see, from a first person view, that the player can shoot at small children who exsessively cry and scream. We watch as the screaming loudens and with that comes a hightened violence as the player shoots more and more of the children. We are drawn in to the game as the energy of the player decreases with the volume of the crying and eventually we see the the underlying message of today out of country younge generation. At first we are shocked but as the game progresses we are lead into a position of tasteful dislike of the noise from these children. We want them to be quite and become sided with the player."
