Game Art: foci + loci's "F. T. Mari(o)netti" (2013)
foci + loci ((Tamara Yadao and Chris Burke) performed a live version of "F. T. Mari(o)netti" at
Vector Game Art Festival in Toronto on February 23, 2013. Like 200 Keyholes, this performance also uses LittleBigPlanet 2 as both platform and medium. From Futurism to Fascism, in a tragically linear fashion. Parole in liberta' and falling crosses... Cars and guns... Mussolini's head and Marinetti's mustache... I cannot wait to see the remaining pieces of this ambitious tetralogy. As they write:"This is the first piece of a planned four-part series focusing on figures from the 20th century who were reacting to the evolution of the machine age. Looking back at this era in the context of a simulation, clarifies our understanding of the topographic through a topological perspective.
Like most of our work, this video is a live capture of a virtual space made using the game Little Big Planet 2. It differs from animation in that it is algorithmic, with movement, light and sound responding in real time to programmed logic. There are no 'cuts' in the filmic sense, but programmed camera transitions which maintain temporal continuity.
In performance, we present F. T. Mari(o)netti as a two-channel piece, controlling two Sony PS3's live. This single channel approach was made for screenings and for the internet." (foci + loci)
