Game Art: Chris Howlett's "ARGARMENIA" (2014)
Another stunning project from Chris Howlett. Unclassifiable from the very start:
"his video piece lies somewhere between a document and a work in itself. It is not a documentary film, reality TV, or a film in the conventional sense. This moving image work can either be viewed as a two channel projection or viewed in single channel format – split screen." (Howlett)
Howlett developed ARGAMENIA during a residency at the Center for Creative Technology in Yerevan, Armenia, in 2013. The artist designed a series of real-time gaming environments both within real and virtual environments "that challenged players’ ability to problem solve, and develop their imaginations whilst learning how to manipulate narrative structures."
A full description of the project can be found here.
