Event: "Vector: Game + Art Convergence" (February 21-24 2013, Toronto, Canada)
Skot Deeming aka mrghosty is the mastermind behind "Vector: Game + Art Convergence", a 4 day Game Art festival and symposium scheduled for February 2013 in Toronto, Canada. As Skot writes, the event was "borne out of a need for a more critical dialogue in the popular discourse on games, gaming and art, and we want you to be a part of the conversation."
Here's the full description:
"More than a celebration of a popular medium, Vector’s mandate it to pose critical questions about the medium through a range of contemporary art practices that speak back to it: installation, performance, sculpture, print, craft, film/ video and more. It is our hope that this will raise the level of discourse on games and game art locally and nationally while connecting Toronto to the larger network of game art exhibitions and practitioners world wide.
Scheduled to run from Thursday Feb 21st to Sunday February 24th, 2013, Vector will inhabit three different venues in the Queen West area of Toronto. Interaccess Electronic Media Arts Centre, Bento-Miso and Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts have all committed themselves to become programming partners for the festival and host it’s various exhibitions and events. Due to the proximity of these venues, Vector will overtake the area for four days with an energetic series of exhibitions, installations, screenings, panels, workshops, and performances, creating a fluid connection between venues, effectively creating a weekend long ‘Game Art crawl’." In short, this is very, very hot. But there's more. There's an open call for artworks: "With a deadline of December 10th, Vector is inviting artists, academics and writers from all levels of experience to submit their work to be included in our programme". Additional details/submission guidelines are available here.
