In Where Are You, Samuel?, a lost soul wanders through corrupted digital terrains, guided by a disembodied voice that promises a path home while drawing him deeper into memory, grief, and irreversible loss. Moving between the haunted frontier of Red Dead Redemption and the blocky, suspended space of Minecraft, Leogrande uses machinima as a form of metaphysical fiction and autobiographical excavation. Here glitches operate as structure: image, sound, and narrative all fracture under the pressure of recollection. Where Are You, Samuel? is an elegy for a vanished world, at once intimate and planetary, already beyond repair.

Samuele Leogrande is a filmmaker whose practice moves between experimental cinema, machinima, and autobiographical fiction. Raised in his father’s video rental store, he developed a relationship with moving images to moving images through popular cinema and vernacular media culture. After travelling across Europe, he settled in Milan, where he studied acting and began directing short experimental works. Since 2019, he has also been involved in the organisation and production of the Castrovillari Film Festival. His film Where Are You, Samuel? premiered at the 66th ZINEBI – Bilbao International Festival of Documentary and Short Films in 2024, and has since screened internationally, including at Fest Anča, FEST – New Directors/New Films Festival, and Freiburger Filmforum.
