Event: Nintendo @ Magnum (Paris, Magnum gallery, Sept 1-17 2011)
"Nintendo, in partnership with the prestigious agency Magnum Photos, organized the first photo-exhibit in 3D without glasses, on a portable video game console, the Nintendo 3DS.
Being the only handheld to take and view pictures in 3D without the use of glasses, the Nintendo 3DS was given to three Magnum photographers whose 3D images will be presented at the Magnum Gallery in Paris from 1 to September 17, 2011. Martin Parr, Thomas Dworzak and Gueorgui Pinkhassov are among the 80 member-photographers of the agency created in 1947 by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David Seymour. Each used the camera from the Nintendo 3DS to produce an exclusive series of thirty images, that explore the world very differently and show the potential of 3D in photography.
It's the first time that these great names in photography are experimenting with shooting in 3D on a video game console. Intrigued by this new tool Parr, Pinkhassov, and Dworzak, immediately enjoyed the fun aspect and the quality of 3D restitution of the subjects they photograph. With only their imagination and creativity, they left to go to the other end of world or simply the end of their street to capture moments of life, faces, places and events that 3D makes even more striking" (Magnum)
