Art Game: Bill Viola's The Night Journey (2018)

Bill Viola's The Night Journey, an experimental videogame conceived by the American video artist and developed by a USC team led by Tracy Fullerton is now available for PlayStation 4, MacOs and Windows. The Night Journey debuted in the SIGGRAPH art gallery in 2007 and has continued to be exhibited worldwide for the past decade. One of the first experimental art games ever made, The Night Journey uses both game and video techniques to tell the universal story of an individual’s journey towards enlightenment. The Night Journey was a collaboration between Bill Viola and the Game Innovation Lab, including award winning game designers Tracy Fullerton and Todd Furmanski. The key question is: How does the status of an artwork change when it becomes a downloadable commodity?
