Art Game: Ana Carina Figueiredo's "MonMazes" (2013)

Piet Mondrian is especially loved by artists using games as a means of expression and source of inspiration. Consider, for instance, Tembac, Coll.eoZephyru Zapedzki and Budget Boys

, just to name a few. Now, Portuguese artist Ana Carina Figueiredo, an MFA student in Technology and Digital Art at the University of Minho has developed MonMazes, a collaborative game inspired by Piet Mondrian's works. MonMazes consists of two benches with smart seat cushions that track the user's seating movements. The goal of the game is to guide a ball through the mazes until the final point. It is based on Arduino microcontroller with force sensing sensors, OSC protocol and Unity 3D. The project was developed by Ana alongside with Marco Heleno and Teresa Abreu. We like to call this "genre" of Game Art Playful Paintings.
