Game Art: Megan England's "Avatar" (2009)

"So what we do is put a character in the game that says, ‘I'm ready for sex,’ all the time, and we ask our female players to be that person.” - Sheri Graner Ray, female video game designer. Avatar plays upon the insecurities of the performer, exposing her, forcing her into an uncomfortably feminine role even as she confidently speaks on a familiar topic. Self-consciousness guides the performance through a series of awkward stages as the image of two female avatars making love directs the audience’s attention to one of the most feminine and hated areas of the body."
