Game Art: Erik Sanner's "Drawing and Painting Traffic Cones from Grand Theft Auto V" (2014)
New York-based visual artist Erik Sanner's new project is titled Drawing and Painting Traffic Cones from Grand Theft Auto V (2014). A series of multiple, solo and collaborative works of various dimensions integrating new and old media, Drawing and Painting Traffic Cones from Grand Theft Auto V was exhibited at the Fountain Art Fair in March 2014 in New York. For his collaborative pieces, Sanner invited artists and non-artists alike to draw and/or paint traffic cones (or anything) as seen through the character's smartphone Snapmatic application inside Grand Theft Auto V.
Below are the results, i.e. pure, unadulterated traffic cone fetish:
Sanner's artistic practice consists in "computer processing to manipulate painted and filmed images, placing them in a constant state of flux." He projects "dynamic video onto prepared surfaces such as painted canvas, integrating new and old media." His installations are "simultaneously filmic and painterly" as he explains o
n his website. One of Sanner's main goals is to promote "awareness of traffic cone aesthetics".
Achievement unlocked.
