Los Angeles–based creative studio iam8bit is returning to its gallery origins with a weekend exhibition celebrating two decades at the intersection of videogames, art, and music. The iam8bit 20th Anniversary Art Show revisits the company’s influential early exhibitions, beginning with the 2005 show that helped popularise retro-gaming iconography on the gallery wall, and charts how those experiments grew into a broader cultural practice spanning publications, editions, and industry events.

Over the past twenty years, iam8bit has evolved from curating game-inspired art to producing albums and editions, publishing original games, and staging high-profile industry gatherings. The studio co-founded Day of the Devs with Double Fine (now an independent non-profit) and collaborates with the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences on Game Maker’s Sketchbook, an annual initiative foregrounding concept and production art in game development.

The anniversary show brings together 70+ artists working across illustration, animation, comics, and pixel art, each reinterpreting console culture and canonical characters from the 1980s and 1990s through a contemporary lens. Confirmed participants include Alex Pardee, Cobcris, Drew Wise, Hayden Evans, Johana Molina, Keita Takahashi, Lee Gatlin, Luke Chueh, Mark Borgions, Maya Quintero, Natalie Andrewson, Paul Robertson, Rex Crowle, Scott Campbell, and Tara Billinger.

Works on view will be available for purchase in person, with select pieces offered as prints at a later date.
