Benjamin Poynter's CHEnd was originally developed
as an interactive virtual reality game and narrative. In the video here, it takes the form of a 3D animation or 'machinima' for storytelling purposes as a more common viewing. Assets, environments, character models, coding, cameras, and animations used to build the game were dug into and re configured; along with bonus visuals which were added in addition to existing assets for visual and coherent effect.
An artist and Assistant Professor of 3D Modeling & Computer Animation at NYIT in Beijing, China Poynter has been experimenting with virtual reality for a while. Below is the trailer for Story Generating Apparatus, "an experimental VR game with an impressionistic take on self identity and lifelong tale, infused with a personal artfact of the subject's life". The piece is meant as an element of a larger transmedia/mixed media work that includes "a graphic novel-instruction manual, 3D prints, its own arcade machine in solo exhibit, card game, and more."
