The Oculus Rift is to 2013 what the Kinect was in 2010. That is: hundreds of artists will truly exploit its power while gaming companies will likely disappoint with boring VR variations of existing genres. One example is Notendo's new work Membrane, developed in collaboration with Jon Baken, Josh Knapp and Gabe Liberti for Oculus Rift. Membrane is a set of "immersive VR environments consist solely of databent (hex edited) 3D models which were sourced from free online services" (Notendo). The work will be on display at Microscope Gallery September 28 in Brooklyn, New York. Expect an avalanche of Oculus Rift-based projects in the next few months...
